remi tinubuForty-five youths mostly from Lagos State University danced for joy recently as Senator Oluremi Tinubu showered scholarships on them under the Post Secondary School Scholarship Scheme (PSSS). The programme, a four year scholarship scheme, saw 26 students receiving N100,000 each while 19 others went home with N20,000 each.
Senator Tinubu handed the cash to the beneficiaries during the 15th Town Hall meeting she had with her constituents at the Muson Centre, Onikan, Lagos. The Senator, who had a youth scheme in her constituency known as Youth Empowerment and Skills Acquisition Scheme (YESAS), said she was determined to empower youths in the area to become employers of labour.
According to her, 10 candidates had been shortlisted in a short time course training, which would last for three weeks.  She promised to initiate policies that would alleviate poverty and assist the people to better their lives.
Giving a report on her stewardship, the lawmaker said 255 Senior School Cerificate Examination forms were distributed across the senatorial district to indigent students and urged the beneficiaries to study hard and excel.
She said a selection process was conducted round the senatorial district and each of the local government nominated their candidates, which includes five person each, but few students met the requirements and among them were Adebayo Adebiyi Sunday, Adu Oluwafemi Ayodele, students of Lagos State Univeristy, among others.
One of the beneficiaries, Akinbola  Kehinde Ridhwanullah,  a 100 level Physics student of Lagos State University, expressed his joy to Senator Tinubu. He said her gesture in supporting youths has given hope to those from poor families to go to school.
Akinbola called on other senators and House of Representatives members to emulate such gesture in assisting students in their senatorial districts and put them on the right track. He promised to utilize effectively the opportunity provided by the scholarship to achieve resounding success in his academic programme.
