Bauchi uncovers 6,065 ghost workers on payroll




The Bauchi State Government said it had discovered 6,065 ghost workers on its payroll.
The discovery followed the workers’ verification the state government compelled all civil servants to do since January this year.
The state Governor, Mohammed Abubakar, disclosed this during an interactive session with members of the Correspondents’ Chapel, Nigeria Union of Journalists, Bauchi State Council, at the Government House, Bauchi,  on Sunday.
He admitted that there were lapses in the last rounds of the exercise in the state.
He said there were two set of errors in the last phase of the verification. The errors, he said, were human mistake which he apologised for, while he described the other as “deliberate sabotage.”
Abubakar said the state government was already using administrative rule to investigate workers involved in the sabotage, saying those found guilty would be dealt according to the law.
“During the exercise, we discovered 6,065 ghost workers on the payroll of the Bauchi State Government. This number could not be rated as small because even if you get 10 ghost workers, the exercise will be  worth it as they will be taking much money illegally.
“There were lapses during the exercise and they were continuous. Don’t forget; the forces that endangered this phenomenon of ghost workers are very strong forces. They have been entrenched over time and a lot of money is being siphoned out of the coffers of the government.

Trouble in Zamfara, as Buhari may declare state of emergency


President Muhammadu Buhari has been advised to declare a state of emergency in Zamfara state as a result of the continued killings and destruction of lives and properties in the Northwest state – The call was made by Senator Saidu Mohammad Dansadau – Dansadau said this was the only solution that will prevent the chaos in Zamfara state

Dansadau, a former lawmaker further revealed that the call became necessary due to the incessant crisis in the state. He said the federal government under the leadership pf President Muhammadu Buhari should appoint a sole administrator who will oversee the affairs of the state, in order to restore calm.

Lionel Messi says he's retiring from international soccer after Copa America loss

Lionel Messi told reporters after Argentina's Copa America Centenario final loss to Chile on penalty kicks that he is retiring from the national team. Sunday night, Messi said that after so many missed chances, he is ready to step away.
Messi was Argentina's all-time leading goalscorer during Copa America Centenario. He spoke out about problems with the Argentina football federation, but did not bring that up when he told reporters of his decision to quit international soccer.

He said:
"The national team is over for me. That’s four finals (lost), it's not for me," Messi told reporters after losing his third final in as many years. "It’s a made decision, I think."
Argentina lost to Chile in penalty kicks on Sunday night.

Argentina lost to Chile in penalties in the 2015 Copa America and lost to Germany in the 2014 World Cup final. They also lost to Brazil in the 2007 final.

We may downsize or cut down on salaries- Nigerian Governors Forum


Governors under the umbrella body of the Nigerian Governors Forum say they may have to downsize the number of Civil Servants on their payroll or reduce the salaries of civil servants following the dwindling revenue generated from the Federal and state levels.

Rising from their meeting in Abuja yesterday November 18th, one of the governors, Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo state who spoke with newsmen, said there was no way the country could continue with a situation where expenditure is more than income.
